A bit of Sad News....

The great Hollywood Make-Up Artist, Rick Baker has "Retired".....
He stated that his Make-up effects were no longer needed or "appreciated" in the films of today...
"CGI" is what they (the studios) want.....
like his wonderful version of Dick Smith's "The Picture of Dorian Grey"....!!!!!

it was because of his great work on "American Werewolf in London" that the Oscars started and award for best "Make-Up"... and He was the first to receive one...!!!!

John Landis' film "Schlock" ... and the film "Octoman" were his firsts....

he went on to do "Its Alive" and the "Incredible Melting Man".... as well as Many other Films....

his talented work will be missed on the "Big Screen"....

  1. This is a sad commentary on the state of movie-making in the modern world. As with many other industries, hand-crafted, human-created work is under-appreciated.

  2. A sad tale. Technology makes lots of people obsolete -- probably all of us eventually.

    1. Yes dear Lady Debra... all of the "technical" aspects and "processes" that we learned in Art School... are no longer used... thus Stacey is "obsolete"...

  3. I hate CGI in most movies! It has its time and place but rubber monsters are still the classic way to go. This is truly sad news. I just wish movies would be fun again and not worry so much about big blockbuster numbers.
