  1. The middle story is the one that interests me......
As a small child, we one day overheard the elderly women dicussing something from their childhoods..... A Hole like the one in this movie.....!!!!!
... when they realized I was listening they quickly changed the "topic".....
We have in the years since located the place from which stone was excavated to fill in the "Hole"..... but have been unable to locate the place where they filled it in....
About 30 years of the History of this county is "missing" (due to a couple of fires long ago.... ) and as a kid , a few years later we saw this film at the Drive-In.... and remembered the conversation of the old ladies....
They do Not give a "location" in the movie...... but this "Hole" matches what they were talking about......

  2. It said Southern Missouri .... back in 1906.... that is about the right timeline for the "Hole" in these parts....

  3. They ( the elderly women) called it the "Devil Hole"....
One of them had already mentioned the "sounds".....
.... the area of this county was mined for gold many years ago..... the Hole was thought to be an old mine shaft that had collapsed.... Any adult that asked about the "Hole" responded "badly"..... watched some grow pale or even break out in a sudden sweat.... Some of the old men that we asked went off at me and told me to "Git the hell home boy...." Never was able to get any more information..... One old man told me that they filled in the Hole with rock..... Would really like to find the exact location of this "filled-in Hole".....
